Hi, I’m Jacob Stambaugh, a multi-disciplined engineer, focused on Data Analytics/Engineering, Statistical Modeling, and Business Intelligence. Adopting a business-centered mindeset, I design and model complex systems that allow for more data driven decsions. I aim to bridge the gap between design, tech, and business by working cross-functionally to understand and model everyday phonenma.
The longer I live, the more I realize that I am never wrong about anything, and that all the pains I have so humbly taken to verify my notions have only wasted my time!
I currently live in Austin, Texas where I work at Virtus Real Estate Capital as their sole Data Scientist/Engineer. I am responsible for their entire data pipeline, from web scraping, to various ETL processes, to the final downstream models. Some of the current downstream models include; HMMs for regime detection, random forests for classification, LSTMs for forecasting, and various clustering algorithms to quantify and explain target markets. With this, I am also responsible for communicating the results both within the firm and to critical shareholders.
During my time at the University of Texas at Austin, I was president of Texas engineering World Health, an organization dedicated to identifying and developing medical solutions for developing nations. During this time, I led intaives to switch from hardware to software projects (due to covid limitations). I spearheaded two major machine learning projects, an image-processing algorithm to classify leukemia-infected cells from healthy cells, and a seizure prevention algorithm using ECG data to predict the onset of a seizure. Both projects used packages like PyTorch, Tensorflow, and Keras to achieve high accuracy. Both of which won the national Engineering World Health design competition in 2021.

Personal Life
While not working, you can find me hiking in one of Austin’s many trails. I am active enjoyer of the wilderness and will often be away on weekends on camping adventures. Additionally, I am an active member of the birding community in my hometown in South Texas which is one of many inspirations for some of the side projects shown on this website!
